Vital Everton Summer Interview: Chuckmeister
1. Who are ya?? What is your username on Vital Everton?
I'm Wayne and my username is Chuckmeister_EFC on Vital Everton.
2. How did you become an Everton fan?
I was born an Evertonian, obviously. Actually I was late into football. Although I'm Burnley born and bred, my step-mother was an Evertonian and she introduced me to the team back in 1983.
3. What is your all time best moment as an Everton fan?
There are so many. Everton winning the FA Cup in 1984 & 1995, winning the old First Division in 84/85 & 86/87, getting into the Champions League in 2005.
Might seem strange but one of the best moments was converting my wife from a Manchester United fan and taking her to Goodison for the first time in 2002 - a 3-1 win.
4. Who is your all time favourite Everton player?
My all time favourite player is Neville Southall. To me he was the best goalkeeper ever.
5. The season just gone, good bad or ugly? What did you think of it?
Bad insofar as the league position and first half of the season. Good for the second half of the season.
6. Best and worst moment of last season?
Worst - the 6-1 humiliation at the hands of Arsenal.
Best - wins over Chelsea, Manchester United at Goodison and the so-called 'biggest team in the world' Manchester City, twice. And Rodwell committing himself to Everton for the foreseeable future.
7. What is needed to improve for next season?
We need to stay clear of injuries. I think we have a great team at the moment although I'd like to see cover at left-back, the (permanent) return of Landon Donovan and Pienaar and Arteta to sign extensions to their contracts.
8. What do you think of the signings so far?
I think Moyes has been astute as ever.
Beckford on a free could be the signing of the season if he bags a few goals and I cannot see any reason why he can't.
Gueye looks like he could be a useful addition.
Mucha, again on a free, is pretty much a low-risk signing as he showed he's a solid enough goalie.
If Silva lives up to his tag as the next Pauletta I'll be as happy as a pig in, erm, it's own filth.
9. Expectations for next season, back in Europe?
Definitely. We don't have Europe so we can have a longer break between games. I think the 25-man squad rule will work in our favour.
10. If you had to choose, Champions League qualification or FA Cup win?
Champions League qualification, definitely.
Everybody wants to play in Europe and if we get into the CL we can attract quality players, though that's never been a problem at Everton anyway.
Thanks to Wayne for this!
