Improvement Needed, Quickly

Improvement Needed, Quickly

No, it isn't just Ronald Koeman, obviously as the boss the man under most pressure, who knows Everton need to find improvement - and quickly. Captain Phil Jagielka is equally as aware the Blues simply aren't doing well enough at the moment.

Had it not been for Wayne Rooney's late penalty at Brighton on Saturday another defeat would have been suffered, which may well have cost Koeman his job?

Jagielka knows the Blues are going through 'a tough period' but he remains confident this can be turned around. However, that'll only be possible with hard work and, all being well, a little luck.

He told the Official Website: 'We know we're in a little bit of a tough period at the moment. But there's only one way we can get out if it and that's by playing football, working hard for each other and hopefully those goalmouth scrambles at the end, the goalkeeper jumps out of the way of one.'

It doesn't need me, Koeman or Jagielka to tell us being just two points above the relegation zone at this stage of the season isn't really good enough - it certainly isn't what would have been expected from the Blues.

This is a worry but Jags will be worrying more if we're still talking about our struggles in another month or two with victories targeted 'sooner rather than later.'

'At the end of the day, we have to do better. We're expected to do better and we want to do better. We've got eight points and we can build on that. But I don't want to be talking in five or 10 games and us still be struggling and scrapping around for points,' said the former England defender.

Concluding: 'We need to start winning sooner rather than later and start climbing that table.'

Things don't exactly get any easier as it's Arsenal - who haven't made the best of starts themselves to be honest - at Goodison Park in the next Premier League game on Sunday lunchtime.
