Midfielder Ready To Prove His Worth

Midfielder Ready To Prove His Worth

Tom Davies was one of the first names on Ronald Koeman's team sheet last season but this time round the midfielder hasn't found it as easy to break into the starting XI.

Davies started all but one of the 19 Premier League games Everton played from the turn of the year, which saw him mentioned in connection with a call up into the senior England squad, let alone the U21s.

However, increased competition for midfield places, following the addition of players Koeman has brought in and competition from the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin, Idrissa Gana Gueye and Mo Besic anyway, has left Davies with a fight on his hands.

This is a fight Davies is up for though and knows you can't look back at what you've previously done in the challenge you're currently faced with - a challenge to prove his worth he's up for.

'Last season is last season. The manager is focused on what is ahead - and that is like us. I do not think you get a place in the team off what you did last season. It is all about this season and proving yourself again,' Davies told the Official Website.

Adding: 'But it is a challenge you look forward to. I have reflected on last season with people close to me. We talked about that and we discussed what I needed to do this season and what it would be like. It is kind of tough to map it out because you do not know what is going to happen, but it is another test.'

Davies is part of a young and exciting crop of players coming through at Goodison Park that should be part of a bright future in the years ahead.

Yes, if he's good enough he's old enough but, like the others, there's no need to push him too fast too soon - it's essential Davies isn't overlooked in favour of more experienced and high profile players though if they're not producing the good.

Meanwhile, another who is proving himself somewhat of late is Oumar Niasse.

I think we all know how things went with Niasse - signed in February 2016 by Roberto Martinez, but fairly quickly put out in the cold and consigned to the scrapheap - and he feels his own positive mentality has made the difference.

He was quoted by Sky Sports: 'The first three or four months here were difficult but after that I've kept my mind and I've tried to settle and I think I'm settling very, very well now. I will not say I'm lucky, I'm blessed. I always take things in a positive way in my life because some things can be negative, but if you look more forward you're going to see that you have a lot more positive things in your life.'

Adding: 'Every time anything bad happens, I say that good things will happen soon. That helps me to always believe in myself and believe in what I'm doing.'
