Defender Targets Manchester United Turnaround

Defender Targets Manchester United Turnaround

Everton started the season impressively but have now hit a run where we can't buy a win and followed up the defeat against Chelsea with a Goodison Park defeat against Tottenham last Saturday.

Following the trip to Atalanta in the Europa League this evening, Everton will seek a positive result against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday - should this happen Michael Keane knows it'll make the Blues' fans happier.

This, after the European game tonight, is what the former Man United defender, who was obviously signed from Burnley in the summer, in a potential club record deal, is targeting.

He told Sky Sports: 'We've got to focus on ourselves and make sure we're doing all we can to get this result. If we can get a positive result I'm sure the fans will be a lot happier again. That's how easy it can be turned around.'

Not only will Sunday give Keane another opportunity to return to Old Trafford, something he's done with Burnley since his exit from Man United, it'll mean Rooney returns to his former club too, having of course returned to Goodison during the summer.

Keane feels certain Rooney, 31, will b given a 'fantastic reception' after achieving so much during his 13 years in Manchester.

The England international said: 'I think he'll get a fantastic reception. I think the fans there realise how good he's been for the club and everything he's won there, so I wouldn't expect anything other than massive applause.'

One who has a great record against Man United is Ronald Koeman as the boss hasn't suffered a defeat against them in his three years in the Premier League so far at Southampton and last season with the Blues - I think most would take that fact remain in place come full time on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports has also reported Rooney, who has travelled to Italy with the rest of the squad for the Europa League game, has no plans to ask for 'sympathetic leave.'

Claims the forward would seek this to give him 'some time away from football' have been denied by a source close to Rooney, with it claimed he 'has not requested a leave of absence' and 'nor would any such request ever be made.'
