Mixed Emotions For Debutant

Mixed Emotions For Debutant

Nikola Vlasic was left with mixed emotions following his Everton debut against Tottenham on Saturday.

The deadline day arrival from Hajduk Split, obviously coming to the attention of Ronald Koeman following his performances against the Blues in the Europa League, came on as a late substitute at Goodison Park with the Toffees already three-down.

Obviously there was delight for the Croatian international that he was able to make his Everton bow, Vlasic was handed a warm reception when introduced in the 80th minute, but this came in a 3-0 defeat against a good Spurs side.

He told the Official Website: 'There's a lot of emotions. It was a very special moment for me. I was happy when the crowd clapped me as I came on but on the other hand, I'm sad because we lost the game.'

Adding: 'Tottenham were a very good. We knew their strengths but we conceded two goals in the first half and that is difficult to come back from.'

Yes, defeat isn't ever pleasing, especially in your first game, with the damage already done, but Vlasic knows we can't dwell on this.

It had to be put behind us and the Blues focus on the upcoming games, including the Europa League meeting with Italian club Atalanta on Thursday, which is a tie the midfielder could be involved in from the start.

Vlasic finished: 'We need to forget this game and look forward quickly now. We have many games coming up and the next one is only a few days away. We are all determined to be better in the future.'
