Deal Breaks Down? But Sigurdsson Still On

Ronald Koeman was confident enough Everton would secure the signing of Swansea's Gylfi Sigurdsson ahead of the Premier League season as the boss said a deal was 'close' when commenting after the Sevilla draw last Sunday.

But talks between the Blues and Swansea have broken down, according to Sky Sports.

These talks, as the clubs fail to agree a transfer fee, have reportedly broken down but 'any suggestion the deal is off is nonsense' as far as Sky Sport is concerned.

Sky said: 'One source has suggested that a verbal agreement was reached between the two clubs, only for Everton to withdraw the offer 48 hours later and refer back to a previous offer, understood to be around £40m.'

Which had led to fears 'soured relations' could prevent this deal going through, having an impact on both the transfer activity both Koeman and his Swansea counterpart Paul Clement have in mind ahead of the closure of the summer window.

An alternative view is the clubs are still looking to agree a fee and if the difference can be split the Icelandic international wouldn't have a problem agreeing personal terms at Goodison Park.

'However, another source has since told us the two clubs are still trying to find a resolution and any suggestion the deal is off is nonsense. Sky Sports News understands that the two clubs are less than £5m apart on a fee, with Sigurdsson's wages not expected to be a problem,' Sky added.

I'll say, as always, Sigurdsson would make a great addition to the Everton squad but the Blues must have a maximum bid in mind and not go beyond this.

At the same time, quite rightly, Swansea know what they want and are entitled to hold out for this - it might be a case of who blinks first...
