Versatility Another Davies Quality

Versatility Another Davies Quality

Tom Davies proved his quality to Everton fairly regularly last season and now the academy graduate is looking as if he could add versatility to his repertoire.

A midfielder by trade, Davies operated in a right wingback role for the Blues against MFK Ruzomberok in the Europa League last week before Ronald Koeman restored him to a midfield position against Sevilla.

Davies admits he's happy to play wherever asked; knowing the ability to fill in other roles will help his selection chances, but did admit he mainly enjoys playing in midfield.

However, if it means Koeman selects Davies to play for Everton, which he told the Official Website was 'a privilege', he'll play anywhere.

'It can't do me any harm if I can play in different positions. Playing wing-back was different to playing in midfield, it was tough in midweek and it was another test being back in the middle today. Wherever I'm asked to play, I'm happy to do the job,' said Davies.

Adding: 'I enjoy playing in midfield mainly but, of course, I'm happy to play at full-back if I'm asked - it's just a privilege to be on the pitch playing for Everton. Anywhere the manager wants me to play, I'll do it.'

Davies, who got a full 90 minutes under his belt, one of only two players to do this against Sevilla, went on to say a 'high intensity' fixture against the Spanish side was a good way to end pre-season.

He knows Everton 'could have done better in some areas' but against a top side in La Liga Davies was ultimately happy to see the Toffees recovery from a deficit, of course after going ahead early on, to draw.

Everton's opener, inside the first minute, was assisted by Davies as he set up Sandro Ramirez to round the goalkeeper and finish. He's also up for the Premier League curtain raiser against Stoke, benefited from the Sevilla run out.

'We came out of the blocks well. I spotted Sandro coming in from the wing - it was a good run by him and I managed to find him. I'm made up for him to score, it's a great way to start,' said Davies. 'It was a tough game, but it was the final game of pre-season and that's what you need. I'm sure we'll recover well now, get some more good sessions in and be ready for the first Premier League game of the season.'

Having made a brilliant impact in his breakthrough season under Koeman it'll probably be a more challenging one for Davies as he'll face greater competition. Yet as the midfielder, clearly trusted by the boss, who is keen to use in him other positions too, should still see plenty of first team action with the Dutchman likely to shuffle his pack.
