Blues Ready For Stoke

Blues Ready For Stoke

Everton wrapped up preparation for the Premier League season, underway against Stoke at Goodison Park on Saturday, with a pre-season draw with La Liga side Sevilla.

Sandro Ramirez, against a side he's familiar with, put Everton ahead before Ever Banega scored a brace to put Sevilla in front. A 2-2 draw was secured when Kevin Mirallas scored from the penalty spot.

This draw, which followed up victories over Gor Mahia and FC Twente and another draw against Belgian club KRC Genk, along with a two legged Europa League win over MFK Ruzomberok, saw the Blues head into the Premier League season unbeaten.

Ronald Koeman's pleased with this record and is convinced Everton are ready for the season ahead.

'The team is ready for the season starting next week. We have had two good games in the Europa League and we know the importance of playing for points. We start at home and that is always good as well,' Koeman told the Official Website. 'It is always good to have no losses in pre-season because it is better for the confidence of the players. I thought a 2-2 draw was a fair reflection of what happened this afternoon.'

Improvement can still be seen from this side but having held a good Sevilla side to a draw, which also enabled plenty to get some minutes, this rounded of preparations nicely.

Koeman said: 'It was a good friendly against a really good football team. Sevilla have good qualities on the ball and they made it really difficult. But everybody got some minutes and we are happy enough about the physical levels of the team.'

Adding: 'Of course we can still improve, because we lost control of the game and found it tough after the first half. But it was a good friendly to end on.'

It took Everton just 34 seconds to go ahead when Sandro scored and Koeman said 'it was pleasing to see Sandro score' with it coming 'in front of the fans' even better.

Aaron Lennon and James McCarthy weren't involved, which was explained by Koeman.

He said: 'Aaron was not fit for today and James wasn't fit, either. James still has some issues with his knee and, out of protection, we kept him out of the squad.'
