Everton Face Hajduk Split In Europa League

After a victory over MFK Ruzomberok in the third qualifying round, a two legged play-off against Hajduk Split is all that stands between Everton and a place in the Europa League.

The meeting with the Croatian side, who claim former Blues Nikica Jelavic and Slaven Bilic, starting and ending his career at Hajduk, making his first moves into management at the club, as former players, will be faced at Goodison Park first before the return leg in Croatia a week later.

Everton host Joan Carrillo's side at Goodison on Thursday 17th August before heading to Hajduk for a second leg meeting at the Stadion Poljud a week later, Thursday 24th August.

Should the Blues overcome Hajduk, it goes without saying we'll hope this can and will be the case, the Toffees will become one of the 22 play-off winners into the Europa League group phase.

Ronald Koeman's made it clear he's looking for a sustained run in the Europa League this season but is also aware of the challenge faced against Hajduk Split.

However, the Everton boss has told the Official Website the Croatian side will be fully analysed in the coming weeks as the Blues look to be fully prepared to see off this challenge, all being well.

'Hajduk Split will be a real challenge, with their strong support and a stadium that is good to play football in,' said Koeman.

Adding: 'But of course we want to reach the group stages of the Europa League, so we will have analysed their strengths and weaknesses between now and the tie and we will be prepared.'
