Spurs Want Barkley This Week?

According to the Mirror, Tottenham will look to secure the signature of Ross Barkley before heading off for a pre-season tour of America.

The problem is Spurs leave on Wednesday and Everton's asking price wouldn't be matched.

Everton value Barkley at £50m but Tottenham are looking at something around £25m to £30m for the England international given the fact he's only got a year left on his current Blues deal.

Yes, I think this is too much for a player with only 12 months of his contract and for a player who has, admittedly, blown hot and cold over the years without actually reaching that 'next level' - similarly to the Everton-linked Theo Walcott, who was earlier commented about, albeit we are talking about a longer period of time with the Arsenal forward.

I know £30m was paid for Michael Keane, who also only had a year on his Burnley deal, but the England defender has continually improved and delivered virtually week-in-week-out for a couple of years now.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has become 'frustrated' waiting for this deal but 'Bill Kenwright plans to test Tottenham's determination by holding out for his full valuation,' reports the Mirror.

If Barkley were to leave Merseyside before Wednesday it'll be a surprise, but we'll see.

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney has made it clear he feels Barkley, 23, should sign a new contract at Everton as he feels the Blues would want the midfielder to be part of what the Toffees are looking to build.

Rooney was quoted by the Liverpool Echo: 'With the ability that Ross has, of course we all want him to be a part of what we're trying to achieve at Everton. He can help us get better but the decision about his future is down to him. I'm sure he will speak to the manager and do what's right for him.'

Chances are Rooney is wasting his time as a decision has been made, hasn't it?

The Echo also said Everton's asking price for Barkley wouldn't be 'anything less than £30m - making Spurs' hopes of a swift deal appear unlikely.'
