Everton Seal Potential Club Record Keane Deal

Everton Seal Potential Club Record Keane Deal

An announcement on the signing of Michael Keane from Burnley was expected from Everton on Monday and sure enough official confirmation came through in the evening on a potential club record-equalling deal.

Keane, having agreed terms and successfully coming through a medical, was unveiled as an Everton player with Burnley receiving a fee that could rise to £30m - equalling the amount Sunderland could get for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

The England defender - convinced Everton is the right club for him to continue to improve as a footballer - has signed a five year contract that keeps Keane at Goodison Park until 2022, at least.

He told the Official Website: 'I`m absolutely delighted to be at Everton, a fantastic football club with passionate fans and a great tradition and I can`t wait to come into training tomorrow to meet all the lads. First and foremost, the manager was a big factor in me coming to the Club. He played in my position when he was a world-class player for a great Barcelona side and a great Dutch side and the style of football he likes to play will suit me, I believe. I watched a lot of Everton last season and I believe I really suit how the team likes to play. I feel like this is a great place to come and continue my development as a player.'

His arrival came at the end of a day that had also seen confirmation of a deal to bring Sandro Ramirez to Goodison also. Keane, 24, made it five summer signings as Everton's spending went past £90m, including the potential deals for the defender and his England teammate Pickford.

Ronald Koeman said: 'Michael was high among the players we wanted to bring to Everton this summer and I'm delighted he is here at the Club. We knew there would be competition from other clubs but Michael believes in the ambition of Everton and what we want to do and this is the perfect moment for him to come.'

The boss added: 'I believe there is much more to come from Michael and that's what makes his signing really exciting for me - we will see his development as a player along with the progression overall within the Club. It's another really positive sign of the direction the Club is moving in. He's 24 years old, his best years are to come, he's an England international, too, and I couldn't be more pleased that he's now a Blue.'

With Sandro and Keane now secured we'll see just how much truth there is to the rumours of a retained interest in Manchester United's Wayne Rooney. It was claimed on Monday Everton would turn attention to the former Blue once the other two were secured with it 'almost inevitable' Wayne will return to Goodison?

However, whatever happens with the former England captain Koeman's transfer dealings almost certainly aren't done.
