Koeman Wants More Following Hull

Koeman Wants More Following Hull

Manager Ronald Koeman has said he wants to see more from the Everton squad as for him, the comfortable scoreline against Hull City at the weekend did not reflect the game.

Hosting the side at Goodison Park for the match as we now head into the March international break, Everton got the ninth minute lead through Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but it wasn't until the 78th minute that we doubled our advantage through on loan Enner Valencia.

Two stoppage time goals from Romelu Lukaku sealed the four nil victory.

Speaking to evertonfc.com as he met with the media post game, Koeman knew the final scoreline had not reflected the match he saw as he knew that it wasn't until Hull were reduced to ten men that we made life comfortable for ourselves.

'Hull made it really difficult. They had a big chance for 1-1 and even in the second half I needed to change the system. I brought Funes in to help control the game. I`m happy that I changed the system because we got control of the game back. Of course, the red card is a big reason we won the game with four goals.'

He went on to add.

'After they went down to 11 against 10 and the second goal we knew we would kill the game and might get some more chances. But it was tougher than the final result reflected. Even if you see the final result, I don`t think that`s the best we have played at home.'

Koeman obviously had praise for the organisation of the opposition given we struggled to break them down.

'We started really aggressive and the first goal is from a great attack. It is really good movement from Tom Davies and the final pass is outstanding. But it is always difficult to play against five defenders, and Hull were playing with three centre-backs. It made it tough and we did not control the game. We were running too much and weren`t in positions to control the game.'

As for a positive though, Koeman was pleased with the spread of goals we saw on the day and for him it's also been one of the reasons we have climbed into sixth place in the table - Calvert-Lewin's first goal for the club made him our 15th different goalscorer so far this campaign, and that's the best spread of goals in the Premier League.

'This is what you like in the team. We know with Rom we have a scorer in the team but you need more goals from midfielders and wingers, even defenders from set-plays. If you score more goals from more players, then it makes it easier.'

With Calvert-Lewin's overall performance, Koeman ended by saying.

'Kevin Mirallas was not available and we needed to make a change in the team. Dominic had been working well and is back from his ankle injury. He knows how to play out of that position on the left-hand side and showed his quality. He is 20 and I know that to develop young players you need to give them a chance. He took it - he scored the first goal and for 55-60 minutes he did really well.'
