Everton v Bolton Wanderers

Both teams managed to win their away games last season, however Bolton's came during a time when Everton were suffering a real crisis of confidence following a torrid start to their league and european campaigns respectively.

The Blues had been knocked out of both the Champions League and Uefa Cup and as a result were finding Premiership wins hard to come by.

Indeed, one of the Blues' only wins of the opening months of last season came at the Reebok Stadium in a 1-0 victory courtesy of Marcus Bent's close range effort.

Last season's game at Goodison Park will be one Evertonians will be hoping to place at the back of their minds during saturday's game.

It is a game that very rarely fails to produce goals and action. Two well drilled teams managed by highly respected managers, the fixture has thrown up both a 3-2 home win and a 4-0 away win in the past two seasons.

The game will be of significance to Everton defender Alan Stubbs, as he takes on the club he began his career at. Whether he begins the game in the starting XI will depend on the condition of Portuguese left back Nuno Valente, who has been nursing a toe injury.

Should the former Champions League winner fail to recover, it is likely David Moyes will opt for Joleon Lescott in his place once more. The former Wolves defender has impressed both the fans and his manager alike with some superb performances so far this season in and out of his preferred position.

The injury to time Cahill might mean David Moyes will revert to a 4-4-2 formation with James Beattie and Andrew Johnson leading the line.

Places in the four midfield slots are very up for grabs with Lee Carsley, Mikel Arteta, Leon Osman, Simon Davies and potentially Phil Neville all vying for a starting berth.

Predicted Starting Lineup:

Tim Howard
Phil Neville
Alan Stubbs
Joseph Yobo
Joleon Lescott
Simon Davies
Lee Carsley
Leon Osman
Mikel Arteta
James Beattie
Andrew Johnson

Predicted Score:

Everton 1-1 Bolton Wanderers
Lescott Kevin Davies

A very important game for both teams. They will both be looking to get back on track following some sticky form of recent, especially considering the fantastic start both teams have made to the season. I can see this game being a very tight one.
