Stones to earn first England start

When John Stones was called up to the England squad for tonight's friendly against Norway his focus was on making his first international start.

Everton defenders Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka and John Stones have all been included in the latest England squad, with Roy Hodgson selecting a 22-man-squad to face both Norway in tonight's friendly followed by the opening Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland on September 8th.

Both Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka were included in England's World Cup squad in Brazil and are now considered England regulars.

But John Stones was only selected on stand-by for Brazil and was eventually left behind.

This time around Stones was determined to make a bigger impression with England was aiming for his first international start.

'It`s unbelievable to see my name again with the England senior squad. It`s another dream come true,' Stones told evertonfc.com following his call-up.

He continued: 'As I said at the end of last season, it was such a big shock to get the call off Roy Hodgson and this time I am going to try to build from that experience.

'I`ve got to keep working hard and hopefully it will happen, getting that first start. That will be my biggest aim this time around.

Hodgson has now confirmed that Stones will indeed start tonight, alongside Leighton Baines.

It seems likely that the Everton duo will take both full back roles with the centre of defence marshalled by Phil Jones and Gary Cahill.

For readers in the UK the game is on ITV.
