Martinez : Lukaku Played With Injury

Everton manager Roberto Martinez revealed star striker Romelu Lukaku played despite a toe injury picked up during the week, Lukaku was eventually substituted with 15 minutes to go and Everton 2-0 up before the eventual collapse.

Martinez: "Romelu has been struggling with a knock on his toe and he did incredibly well to be available today."

"The fans need to know and it is an example of our football Club that he did everything to be available for the game to help the players."

"To last over 70 minutes was an incredible gesture and he was terrific for Naismith`s goal - I couldn`t be prouder of his attitude and the way he represented our Club today."

Martinez went on to say he was very confident Lukaku would be available for selection next week against title favourites, and former club, Chelsea.

With Everton only having two senior strikers at the club, and Kone still injured from last season there was in reality likely little choice but to play Lukaku in today's game.

Most Everton fans hope the club will sign another striker before the transfer window closes, but manager Martinez has repeatedly expressed a lack of desire to add further to the squad following the arrival of Atsu on loan from Chelsea.
