Kone has not been forgotten

Kone has not been forgotten

One year ago, the talks around Everton was whether or not Arouna Kone and Nikica Jealvic would form a good partnership at Everton.

30-year-old Arouna Kone had made just five substitute appearances in the Premier League following a £6million move from Wigan, when he suffered a knee injury in October 2013.

From that point on he quickly disappeared from the minds of most Evertonians.

Written off as just a waste of a transfer fee, he had become Goodison Park's forgotten man.

"He is not the forgotten man in our eyes, He is a figure that is very much in our plans and he is an understood figure because he has gone through such a horrible time. Everton gaffer Roberto Martinez told The Echo.

He continued: "It was a very serious injury and it is just about assessing when he will be available to play but he will be important this season.

"There are going to be so many games where his experience - playing for many important teams over his career - is going to be very beneficial for us. He is not forgotten at all."

His hopeful return to fitness will be, to steal an over used cliché, like a new signing.

If he can return to the form he had shown under Roberto Martinez for Wigan, he will prove to be an excellent option alongside Romelu Lukaku.

He scored 13 goals in 38 appearances for Wigan, after previously impressing for the likes of Levante and Seville in Spain.
