Gibson edges closer to return

Darron Gibson is close to returning to full training with his Everton team-mates.

Gibson ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament during the Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan back in October.

Gibson was only 38 minutes into his second appearance for his country after he returned from his self imposed international exile following Giovanni Trapattoni's departure, with interim replacement Noel King giving him a recall.

Gibson was initially ruled out for the remainder of the season, but back in February, Everton gaffer Roberto Martinez muted the possibility of a an early return.

It has now been revealed that Gibson is close to re-joining full-training and could push for match day squad place over the next few weeks.

"Darron is working well and is going to join the group very soon. Then it`s about seeing how he can adapt to the demands of working with the group." Martinez told The Echo.

He added: "He is out on the grass, though he hasn`t joined in with the group yet.

"That`s not going to be too far away with how he is recovering.

"The one-to-one work is showing really well and I don`t think he is going to be too far away from joining in with the group, which is a real success in itself."
