Heitinga snubs West Ham

Heitinga snubs West Ham

Johnny Heitinga is set to leave Everton over the next few weeks, but to where is the question.

Following the opening of the transfer window this week, Everton and West Ham United agreed a fee for the 30-year-old Dutchman, only for Heitinga to reject the move.

'You have to be convinced that you are taking the right step and I was not,' said Heitinga to the BBC.

He continued: 'It is not about money because that was not the problem with a move to West Ham. I'm confident I will find another club before 31 January.'

Heitinga has been linked with a number of Italian sides in recent months and could be set for a move to Serie A with either Roma and Fiorentina.

Once he does officially leave Goodison Park it will end an Everton career that started in September 2009 after he joined in a £6million move from Athletico Madrid.

He has made 137 appearances, but this season he has made just two Capital One Cup appearances and hasn't started in a Premier League game in seven months, something which isn't going to be looked upon favourably by Dutch Manager as Louis van Gaal ahead of the World Cup in Brazil.
