Could John Heitinga be just a couple of weeks away from leaving Everton for Italy?
Heitinga could be set to leave Everton after four years and 137 appearances following his £6million move from Athletico Madrid in September 2009.
The Dutch international and former World Cup finalist has been linked with a number of clubs over the past few months, with Italian sides Roma and Fiorentina the latest said to be interested in the 30-year-old defender.
Heitinga is thought to have been frustrated at Goodison Park for quite some time, he wasn't always in the plans of former boss David Moyes and things haven't changed since Roberto Martinez walked in through the door.
This season he has made just two Capital One Cup appearances and hasn't started in a Premier League game in seven months, something which isn't going to be looked upon favourably by Dutch Manager as Louis van Gaal ahead of the World Cup in Brazil.
Heitinga's agent Karel Jansen last month confirmed that he had been looked for a potential move for his client.
'It`s true, we`re looking around to find a solution, maybe even for the market in January. Heitinga's agent Karel Jansen told The Post.
He added: 'We`re talking, even with Everton, to evaluate all possibilities.'
It's unlikely that there is any possibility of any future at Goodison Park, with Heitinga now seemingly behind John Stones in Martinez's thoughts.
So with the Dutchman's contract close to expiry, talks could be regarding allowing him to leave for a nominal fee. Something that wouldn't offer Martienz anything in form of a transfer kitty, but the savings in wages would give him something to play with.
