As promised, Everton supporters will be able to have their say on the future of Everton's new crest, starting with a consultation period this week.
Over the summer, Everton launched a new crest. Unless you have taken your summer vacation in the Australian outback or in the rain forests of South America, you wouldn't have failed to have heard the furore the new crest received by Evertonians.
Everton have admitted that they made mistakes over not speaking to the fans and asking for feedback from supporters and have said that they will hold a consultation period regarding the club crest for 2014/15 and beyond.
But why did the club change the crest in the first place? The answer, from a business and commercial stand point makes perfect sense.
The outgoing crest was repeatedly badly reproduced, with part of the crest either cut off or included the wrong colours.
It was often suggested that it was also difficult to read in some media.
Due to these media issues, modern crests are these days often simplistic, which was the idea behind this seasons creation, which proved to be a bit of a PR disaster.
So how are Everton rectifying that?
The answer is a structured consultation process which begins today.
Then next month the consultation period will end and the selection process will begin.
By October we will then know what the new crest will look like beyond this season and for the foreseeable future.
