Manchester United have made their final offer

Manchester United have made their final offer to Everton for left back Leighton Baines.

That's the view of Everton gaffer Roberto Martinez when he was asked about the summer transfer speculation linking Baines with a move to Old Trafford to be re-united with former Everton boss David Moyes at the Premier League champions.

Martinez confirmed that an offer was made for Baines ahead of the team's trip to Austria for pre-season, which was reported at the time to be around the 12million mark.

However Everton rejected the bid and no offers have been forthcoming from Manchester United or elsewhere.

"Before we went to Austria one club officially contacted ourselves with an offer and it was a final offer.

"They put something over and the valuation wasn`t anywhere near the quality of Leighton Baines. That was the end of it but since then there`s been all the speculation, which has been part of what the transfer window is.
Martinez told The Echo.

He continued: "There`s never been another club or anyone else putting in an offer for Leighton. Since then we`ve moved on and we`re continuing to focus on the start of the season."

Discussing the Moyes-Factor, Martinez added: 'when you`ve got an ex-manager who has first-hand information of that you`re going to get that speculation in the media, but the reality is that there has been nothing apart from the contact really early in the season.
