Everton to rekindle Fer interest

Everton are continuing to monitor FC Twente midfielder Leroy Fer.

The Dutch international midfielder almost made the move to Goodison Park back in January before the deal eventually collapsed.

The 23-year-old appeared to keen to make the move to Everton and had reportedly agreed a four-and-a-half year contract.

Everton and FC Twente also initially agreed a £8.6million fee before a medical revealed a slight problem with his knee.

I wasn't serious enough to scupper the deal completely, but it was enough for Everton to want to re-negotiate the transfer in order to add various appearance related clauses to protect ourselves from the possibility of Fer not fulfilling his potential due to injury.

Fer had already missed two months of the Eredivisie season at this point after sustaining the knee injury on international duty in September, it seemed the sensible thing to do, but while Everton wanted to pay the £8.6million in staged payments and clauses, FC Twente were unwilling to negotiate and the deal collapsed.

Since then Everton have continued to monitor the midfielder, recently sending scouts to watch Twente lost to Vitesse Arnhem.

'There were a number of English clubs at the game.' A Twente spokesman told Sky Sports, although refusing to name names.

While Fer also seems to not be ruling out the possibility of the move being rekindled.

'It is still a fantastic club. But at the moment I am not thinking about it.

'Only one thing counts right now: ending the season at FC Twente in a good way.'
he told Algemeen Dagblad.
