Everton links - A Keeper, a defender & midfielder

Everton could be very busy over the January transfer window if this mornings papers are accurate.

Yesterday we were again linked to Bruges midfielder Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe and Argentinian winger Matias Schelotto.

But today the British press have linked us with a couple of players a little bit closer to home.

Birmingham's England international Jack Butland is one of the most highly rated goalkeepers in the country at just 19-years-old.

At 6ft 4in he has already been in and around the England set-up and impressed during the Olympics as part of the Great Britain squad.

Birmingham want to cash in due to their financial problems and believe that the £6million they could receive would stave off administration.

If Everton have the cash available they would however face competition from Liverpool, Southampton and Fulham who are all interested according to the Mirror.

Meanwhile the Daily Mail have reported that as well as a new contract for David Moyes, Bill Kenwright and Moyes will also be discussing the possibility of making a move for 22-year-old Wigan and Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy and keeping an eye on FC Groningen defender Virgil van Dijk.

The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with a move for Sunderland but also spoke of Everton's interest in a recent interview.

'I'm aware of the interest of a few clubs and Everton is one of them', Van Dijk told Voetbal International.

He added: 'I hear and read a lot. Soon I have dinner with my agent Henk-Maarten Chin. He will tell me how things are going.

'I enjoy the interest, but if I leave it must be a good decision when I leave.'

As far as i can make out we are skint unless one of the tight fisted mega rich gits on the board lends the club a tidy sum; this could be done on the back of the increased tv money all PL teams are getting, surely? If we are able to compete at any level in the TW then Moyes will hopefully wave his famous wand again!!!!
