As expected Luis Suarez took centre stage in the Merseyside derby.
From the moment that David Moyes interview regarding players diving had been aired, you just knew Suarez would make his impact somewhere in the game.
But in the end, Suarez dominated all the headlines in all aspects of the game, he was involved in goals, controversial celebrations, bad tackles and poor refereeing decisions.
It didn't take him long to steal the spotlight and once he did the Goodison Park spotlight just followed him around the pitch all afternoon.
After just 15 minutes he opened the scoring, his strike may not have been on target but once it struck Leighton Baines the ball hit the back of the net, to the delight of the red half of Merseyside.
Suarez clearly had a pre-planned celebration in mind, running all the way back to the dugouts, brushing aside his team-mates he swan dived in front of the Everton bench. It wasn't as good as Jurgen Klinsmann's goal celebration of the 1990's, but it wasn't a bad attempt, even if the goal had been chalked up as a Baines own goal.
'I thought it was great. I actually quite liked that and it's the sort of thing I'd have done if I'd have scored.' Moyes told the BBC after the game.
Five minutes later Suarez did get his name on the scoresheet, putting Liverpool ahead after just 20 minutes, it felt like our chance of taking something from the game had gone. Even with Everton the favourites on form, the occasion of the Merseyside derby had taken over.
But within moments Everton were back in it, first Leon Osman got one back before Steven Naismith found the equaliser! Barely 15 minutes after Suarez had given Liverpool a 2-0 lead.
The goals might have ended there but the drama hadn't. Luis Suarez was involved in three further acts of this dramatic play.
The first two were poor tackles, particularly the one on Distin that Moyes believed he should have been sent off for.
'He was a very lucky man to stay on the pitch for his tackle,' Moyes also told the BBC.
He added: 'It's over the top, down the back of the leg.'
Then in the final minute of the match, a linesman's flag denied Suarez a last-minute winner.
Slow motion replays later showed that he wasn't offside, not that us Evertonians were too bothered by Suarez's disappointment and there was little sympathy from Moyes either.
'It was a goal but I don't think it was a foul on Gerrard in the middle of the pitch, That was the wrong decision but it was also the wrong decision not to give the goal.'
