Holtby teases Premier League move again

Schalke midfielder Lewis Holtby has been linked with moves to Everton ever since he joined the Bundesliga side from Alemannia Aachen.

Back then he was a 19-year-old who no-one had ever heard of and yet the internet websites were linking us with a £7million move just because he grew up as an Everton fan.

In June he was then quoted discussing a possible move over from Germany to England to play in the Premier League, with both Everton and Arsenal his preferred destinations.

'I have always said that my aim is to come to the Premier League one day because I love the league,' said Holtby four months ago.

He added: 'My father is English and of course my favourite teams are Everton and Arsenal.

'My father was born in England and was an Everton fan since the age of five. He immediately infected me with the Everton virus! Since then I have been an Everton fan. My thoughts now are first with Schalke but you never know.'

This week he was quizzed again by the German media, they came from two angles on this, the first was because he is set to play against Arsenal in the Champions League this week and the second angle was because he is currently in the final year of his contract and he could leave for a foreign club on a free transfer in the summer.

So naturally, he was asked about his future and English clubs and his response was similar to back in June.

"We will see when it happens.

"Everton are close to my heart and I always loved watching Arsenal because of their style of play and some of the players they`ve had."
the 22-year-old German international was quoted by The Echo.

Not exactly giving much away, but the comments are becoming more frequent. Is he just pushing for a new contract in Germany? Or is there a true link between ourselves and the lad?

Have kept a pretty close eye on the lad, since we were linked to him especially since he is a self-admitted Everton fan. Am very impressed by the young lad, started the season off with Schalke in good form and of course will be available on a free. Seems like it will be between Arsenal and Everton, hopefully he goes with his heart and chooses Everton, and given our form, hopefully come the end of the season, the decision will be easy for him (Everton finishing in the top 4).
