Everton supporters` group lodges police complaint

The Everton supporters group 'Rice Lane Supporters` Club' have lodged an official complaint with Leeds United following the mid-week cup clash.

Seven people were arrested on Tuesday evening after one incident inside the ground involving smoke bombs and another incident outside the stadium when some Everton supporters had an unsavoury altercation with West Yorkshire police.

According to reports in the Echo, trouble flared after the police attempted to direct Everton fans up a crowded flight of steps. With the area being busy it quickly became a bottleneck, some fans decided to turn back and couldn't get out and that was when tempers flared.

Some fans were chanting "justice for the 96" and "Yorkshire police, murderers", whilst police are alleged to have used batons and truncheons to hit Everton supporters.

"Many fans were not happy with the way things were managed. We have lodged a complaint with Leeds, who I believe will also have to inform the relevant police force." James Lyon of Rice Lane Supporters` Club told the Echo.
