Sheedy continues fight against cancer

Just last month news broke of the sad news that Everton Academy coach Kevin Sheedy had been diagnosed with bowel cancer.

Sheedy was during his playing days an Ireland international and true Everton favourite making 369 appearances scoring 97 goals.

Since his playing days he has worked at Everton and is part of the coaching set-up at the academy, which has seen many players develop through the ranks and into the first team.

He underwent surgery later that week and we can now thankfully bring good news as that operation has been deemed a success!

He is now said to be recovering well at home and he has once again reiterated the importance of early detection.

"I will need regular checks to monitor my recovery. My symptoms were blood in my stools and a change in my bowel habits because I was always on the toilet. he told evertonfc.com

He continued: "I would strongly urge anybody who has concerns to go immediately to their GP, My life has been saved through early detection and I am told that over 90% who are diagnosed at the earliest stage are successfully treated.

"Don`t be embarrassed to go otherwise you could die of that embarrassment."

If you would like to send a message of support to Sheedy, then the email address is sheeds@evertonfc.com
