Former Aston Villa and West Ham midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger could be handed a return to the Premier League with Everton.
After last week being linked with out-of-contract and out-of-favour Owen Hargreaves, David Moyes has given the 30-year-old former Germany international a two-week trial to try and impress and earn a contract at Goodison Park.
Hitzlsperger has been without a side since he left German side Wolfsburg in the summer.
'I have been very pleased with him,' Everton assistant manager Steve Round told the Daily Mail.
He continued: 'Thomas is a long way off playing but we have given him the opportunity to come in and it is up to him now. We will assess him over the next couple of weeks.
'He seems a really good lad and I don't think I have seen him without a smile on his face.
'What will determine whether he gets a contract is his fitness. He has had a bad injury and we would want to see that he could sustain training.
It's an interesting development, so what do Evertonians think about it?
Rob-EFC wrote: Not bad really, gives Moyes a chance to have a close look at him and see if he can do a job for us. I don't see the harm in it either, with the failed attempt for that Belgian lad, we need some cover in that position, the lad has a wealth of experience and offers us good depth in our squad. Also has a mean shot on him as well. Surely cant be worse that what we have now in Phil Neville.
Guess we will have to wait and see how he goes.
ToffeeBlue said: Always liked him when he was playing for Villa and has a cracking shot on him. If he can prove his fitness then i would have no problems with this as long its not a McFadden esque signing.
While The Yak added: A safer bet than Hargreaves that's for sure.
