Everton went into the game against Newcastle hoping for an improvement on the embarrassing performance away against West Brom, our forum members were in positive mood against a Newcastle side missing several players, with the consensus being attack Newcastle and we'd win the game and a concern about the potential presence of Phil Neville in midfield.
Rob-EFC: Would love to see Mirallas get a start at home, think he is ready for it and we need to attack this Newcastle side because the Newcastle side is definitely there to be attacked, they will be missing 3 of their 4 starting defenders, their keeper and their defensive midfielder, which is why we need to get at Newcastle because attacking them is the best way to win the game.
ToffeeBlue: Disappointed Gibson is still out and with Vadis not getting his clearence it leaves us short in the middle. I would push Fellaini back deep and bring in Mirallas and really get at Newcastle. Everton 2 Newcastle 1
EvertonMike: Fellaini has to drop back, Neville and Osman would be given the run around by these.
Rob-EFC: Gibson is a massive loss, only need to take a look at the WBA game, but the line up you put could beat Newcastle, and if that was the line up, then I would be confident unfortunately, I see Moyes sticking Neville in our midfield, and how Moyes cant see how Neville messes up our midfield and playing style is beyond me.
Everton went into half time 1-0 up thanks to a great goal from left back Leighton Baines (despite having started with the feared Neville - Osman midfield).
Rob-EFC: Disappointing to see Neville in the middle, again, been our weak link and gifted them one of their two chances. Been on the whole very good half, been all over them especially at the start. Going down the left as usual we are causing them troubles and Baines has been brilliant, scored, set up some chances, even a goal line clearance. Mirallas has also looked lively and not afraid to shoot, which is nice to see because I do think at times we tend to overpass a bit. But good 1st half, you would imagine they would put Ba on at some stage upfront, so would like to have a bit of a buffer before that happens because to me, they will be a bit more dangerous going forward. But more of the same lads. Come on.
Rob-EFCs Ba concern would prove to be well founded with the striker coming on at half time and scoring twice as Newcastle and the officials stole a point, Everton had two good goals wrongly ruled out due to the incompetence of the officials and a late equaliser was enough to leave the game 2-2.
This less than brilliant refereeing was not appreciated by Rob-EFC: **** poor from the ****ing 'officials.' 2 perfectly good goals disallowed by the same ****ing linesman, Fellaini wasn't offside and that was an absolute goal from Anichebe (although he should've slammed it in the net really). Such a ****ing shame that a cracking game like it was in the 2nd half was ruined once again by absolute incompetent refs. We should have buried this team on numerous occasions, in the 1st half we had several chances wasted and in the 2nd half, well, Jags and Distin were horrendous, the defending for that 2nd goal was ridiculous, Distin was ball watching and then got caught behind.
Big chance blown thanks to some slack defending, poor finishing, but most of all the ****ing officials, should have been 4-2 at the very least, Newcastle can count themselves extremely lucky, didn't deserve jack****, thank the ref for that point lads.
For ****s Sake, 2nd place on the line, ruined by the ****ing officials. Well done.
EvertonMike: Don't blame Jags and Distin entirely, midfield didn't follow the runners. Would blame Moyes more for thinking Osman and Neville is a Premier League standard central midfield.
If the officials are going to wrongly rule out two goals for us we're unlikely to win any way
