Reality check for Everton

I was thinking ahead of the game against the Baggies, that I cannot actually remember a time, in recent years of course, that I felt so confident going into games.

All the new signings look exciting and David Moyes appears to have been invigorated by being able to freshen his Everton squad up a bit over the summer.

We've looked good, but this is Everton and things don't stay that way forever and it ended abruptly with defeat to West Brom.

So how did the defeat go down on Vital Everton? Philosophically is probably the right word:

Too many players had an off day and it did not help matters with Gibson going off so early and Moyes responding negatively by bringing Hibbo on and shoving Neville in CM instead of putting him at RB; Fella could then have slotted into midfield and Mirallas up front to cause pandemonium!

On a positive note we were brought back down to earth with a bump and can learn from this-we have a two week break to get things right and get the new boys settled in. COYB

Rob-EFC added: Was a very bad day at the office, credit to WBA, they were up for it and wanted it more, and rightfully got the 3pts.

But as you said, too many players had a poor day, Fellaini especially. Really is surprising how much Gibson influences our formation and our style, after he went off it really fell apart. Had to lose sometime, just important to bounce back against Newcastle at home, shame we have to wait 2wks. And as you said, on a bright note we got a reality check and gets the lads to realise we need to work hard week in week out.

The same comments were made over on the forum with ToffeeBlue writing: Major reality check for the blues, a disgraceful performance with too many of our 'stars' believing their own hype. Never looked like scoring and were beaten far too easily. Just hope Gibson is ok as we need him in the midfield badly.
