Everton make cheeky bid for Essien

With the transfer window slamming shut later today, you are likely to hear a number of transfer rumours involving Everton during the course of the day.

Some may well involve Everton players departing Goodison Park (Leighton Baines to Manchester United appears to have gone quiet, but if there was a day for that link to be recycled today is it), while other rumours will involve us attempting to sign new players because that's the kind of summer we've had!

Yesterday reports began to emerge across the world wide web that we made a loan bid for Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien.

The Ghanaian midfielder has slipped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge but despite him appearing to be out-of-favour the season-long loan bid was rejected.

It would have been a fantastic signing for David Moyes if this was true and could have happened and its certainly my favourite link of the day so far!

It was posted by the Daily Fail, so a decent chance no contact was made, but if true, I like the thought from Moyes, we need a defensive midfielder, and he would've been a brilliant loan signing. Just need to move onto the next target, which the media are saying is N'zonzi
