Everton continue to be linked with a move for Kevin Doyle, but I don't really understand why?
At 28-years-old he's a player supposedly at the peak of his profession, when buying a striker of this age, you are not buying potential you are buying the finished article, where you will then get a couple of solid years before he slowly begins to get older, slower and in some players cases fatter.
So if we were to buy Kevin Doyle what would we be getting?
Well he's an Republic of Ireland international forward with 50 caps to his name. He's also scored 10 goals, so a ratio of 1 in 5 at international level.
He spent his early years in Ireland with St Patrick's Athletic and Cork City before a move to England with Reading followed in 2005.
He made over 160 appearances for Reading over the next four years, two seasons in the Premier League and two seasons in the Championship scoring 56 goals (a ratio of a goal every 3 games).
That form earned him a £6,500,000 move to Wolves where he still plays. Since joining them in 2009 he has spent three seasons in the Premier League before their relegation last season.
He's made 108 appearances scoring 22 times (a ratio of 1 in 5 again).
It's hardly a prolific record, admittedly at poor clubs battling relegation but quality always has a way of showing itself even at the bottom clubs and 5 goals in 45 appearances last season is hardly a record that screams quality.
Add into the mix that he's on a long contract with Wolves and they appear able to get in daft fees for other players like £10million for Matt Jarvis and £15million for Steven Fletcher and it just leaves me wondering why David Moyes is even wasting his time to watch him play against Barnsley last week as he's not going to be cheap!
