'If It's Football, It's Vital'

I will fight for my position says Heitinga

In the past Johnny Heitinga has said some daft things in interviews.

Or at least he has been quoted as saying some daft things in interviews as the usual, lost in translation line gets thrown around to save face or to water down some controversial comments.

Two years ago he seemed desperate to leave Everton. He wanted to join Manchester City, Liverpool, Barcelona, Ajax or basically any club that would have him.

It seemed that every time he spoke to a Dutch newspaper or website, he was trying to engineer a move away from Goodison Park.

Well things appear to have changed all thanks to Twitter.

"I will fight for my position and stay at Everton," he wrote during a Twitter Q&A with fans.

He added: "Everton is a big club. A club where I feel really well."

Obviously the topic of Ajax came up, but he seemed to answer it quite well: "I learnt in football never to say never.

"Ajax and Everton are my clubs. The time isn`t there yet to come to Amsterdam."

Perhaps the moral of the story is for Heitinga to always limit his comments to 140 characters?

Speaking of Twitter, Vital Everton is now available on both facebook and twitter, so if you are that way inclined and more importantly understand all this new fangled dangled stuff, feel free to watch us, poke us or whatever else you are meant to do there!

He is a quality player and it is great to hear he is willing to fight for his place. Competition for places is only good news for the club and to have a quality player in Heitinga on the bench, is a sign of the quality at the club.
