Performance against United pleases Moyes

Everton kicked off the new Premier League season with a well earned 1-0 win over Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side hadn't lost an opening day fixture since 2004, while Everton notoriously start seasons off slowly.

Well the form book was thrown away for this fixture as it was Everton who were the better team from start to finish.

This wasn't a hit and run performance, this wasn't a lucky goal scored on the counter and then doggedly defended for 88 minutes.

This was a performance which had Manchester United rocking from early on.

Leon Osman hit the woodwork, while David de Gea in the United net, kept Man Utd in the game saving from Steven Pienaar and Leighton Baines.

But the breakthrough came on the hour mark when Gibson's corner was headed home by Fellaini.

'I'm really pleased because we performed ever so well. We've often started the season slowly but just because we've won one game doesn't mean we've had a good start - as it would not have been a bad start had we lost.' Moyes told the BBC.

Most people who watched the game has praised the performance from midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

The Belgian was simply unplayable, putting in a dominating performance capped off by a cracking goal, beating Michael Carrick to the punch from a corner.

The goal gave Everton the deserved three points and Fellaini has lapped up the plaudits.

Moyes continued: 'Marouane Fellaini is a really good player. We can play him behind the striker, in the middle or because of his power in the air we can play him as a defensive one as well.
