Jags scores first England goal

It might have been a stupid time to hold international fixtures, but one positive did come from last nights game, Phil Jagielka's first England goal.

While the Olympic spirit is still hanging around, a lot of footballers have received a bit of bad press in recent weeks.

Over paid, over hyped, the countries media has firmly kicked footballers off of their pedestal and questioned footballers commitment to representing their country.

Well I hope they were watching last night as Everton's Phil Jagielka threw himself at the ball to head home his first international goal.

Lampard's cross was down low and required Jags to jump full stretch, putting his face at the mercy of an Italian foot. Complete commitment, in a meaningless fixture with nothing really but pride on the line.

Apparently it was the first goal scored for England by an Evertonian since 2004, one of those meaningless stats which is nice to update.

Jags was taken off after 62 minutes, ending an hour of Jags playing alongside Leighton Baines who also started in Roy Hodgson's England side and he played 78-minutes.
