Owen edges closer to new deal

Michael Owen has revealed that he is edging closer to agreeing a deal with a club, but could it be Everton?

It was only yesterday that we covered Michael Owen's search for a new club and suggested that his career could go from Merseyside to Madrid, to Newcastle, to Manchester United and back to Merseyside with former Evertonian Graeme Sharp endorsing a move for the 32-year-old.

Owen has quite clearly stated that he is only considering moves to Premier League clubs, previously tweeting: 'If a good opportunity doesn`t come my way then so be it. At this stage of my career it has to be something that I`m going to enjoy doing,'

'Not being disrespectful when saying I wouldn`t play in The Championship. Always said I wouldn`t drop down the leagues like some have done.

'I know I can still bang them in at the top level. I proved that nearly every time I played for Manchester United. At 32, still got a few years in me.'

5 Premier League goals for Manchester United in three years might not make the headlines, but overall he has scored 17 goals from 18 starts (he has also made 34 sub appearances).

With statistics like that his goals per minutes ratio might surprise many and a natural goalscorer is always a good option to have amongst your squad and it would seem that at least a few Premier League clubs agree going by Owen's recent activity on Twitter.

'Getting closer to finding a new club.

'Had a good deal of interest but just need to pick right! Can't wait to get going again.'
he said.

Could it be Everton? Would you want it to be?

Haven't heard of anything about Owen to Everton, my money would be a club like Stoke. Think we will search the loan market for a back up striker. Not really fussed about Owen, if we get him on our terms (basic deal) then go for it, if he doesn't want that, wouldn't lose any sleep over him.

I think owen might be a goer as he would want to keep in the north west close to his horses, as a squad player and a sub i think he would be handy and he would work well with jelavic
