As we expected, Everton could well face legal action from Rangers newco over the free transfer of striker Steven Naismith.
The Scottish international striker walked out on Rangers after months of financial turmoil and opted to join Everton on a four-year-deal this week.
Back in February Naismith had a release clause of £2million written into his contract after he took a 75% pay-cut and he was beginning to be linked with a move to Everton back in May.
But events at the end of June accelerated his transfer and meant that he would be available as a free agent.
Naismith and Rangers team-mate Steven Whittaker both declared themselves as free agents after claiming that they had refused the transfer of their contracts to the Rangers newco, with the oldco set for liquidation.
The Rangers newco, which has this week had its application to the Scottish Premier League refused is now set to apply for a position in the Scottish Football League, but it isn't clear if that will be in Division One or at the bottom of the ladder in Division Three.
Other players have since also refused the transfer of their contracts to become free agents.
Rangers of course have declared they will take legal action against the players and any team attempting to sign them, but that threat doesn't interest Naismith.
"That`ll be for the lawyers, agents and clubs to talk about. I`m really not interested in that. I just want to focus on the football side of things now. Naismith told the Post.
He continued: "I`ve been talking a lot of legal stuff for months now.
"Rangers are going to look out for their best interests, understandably. I took advice on my situation and took the measures I believe are the proper professional ones.
"That`s all I can do. I`m just looking forward to playing football and talking about my new boots."
