Attentions turn to Pienaar

With Everton completing a move for Steven Naismith from Rangers and Tottenham announcing new manager Andre Villas-Boas to the media, attentions could now turn to Steven Pienaar.

The South African's future has been up in the air since the end of last season.

Everton want to keep him, he wants to return to Everton.

Problem is, he is contracted to Tottenham and they have been pre-occupied with the search for a new manager following their sacking of Harry Redknapp.

They have now settled on Chelsea flop Andre Villas-Boas, which I'm sure makes sense to them, but it doesn't make much sense to me!

Will the new boss think that Pienaar could feature in his plans? Or will he be prepared to let him make the move his heart is set on?

And what price will he command? £4million? £5million? £6million and can Everton stretch the bank to afford him?

"They have now settled on Chelsea flop Andre Villas-Boas, which I'm sure makes sense to them, but it doesn't make much sense to me!" Showing your ignorance here. 8 months is not enough time to mould a team. Sacked at Chelsea too early and this will be good news for Spurs Read more: http://www.everton.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=286323#ixzz1zeEWfPpW"

Needs to be signed up as soon as possible, integral part to our team as shown in the 2nd half of this season. I imagine the price will be around the 4-5mil, and despite AVB, I cant see Pienaar remaining at Spurs, especially since they did down Bale to a new contract.

personally I would love to keep Pienaar at WHL. he really struggled with injury and therefore a lack of a run of games during his first spell, but I hoopoe that with renewed confidence and fitness, he will want to try his luck once again with us.

"Everton want to keep him, he wants to return to Everton." Have you read Pienaar's latest statements? It seems like he now wants to first check out the new manager (and seek assurances, blah blah). For him, as for most players, it's about number one. He might of course still go to Everton, and swear blind about how you're the only club for him. I'd take that with a whiskey.

He's too good for the Toffees but not good enough for Spurs! He's a niche market!

Now we have got one Steven lets hope we can get another one- in Pienaar. Isnt he supposed to be in court today in Joburg? Hope everything goes his way as i would sooner have him on our LEFT WING than a bleedin security wing!

as far as pienaar is concerned, he asked for the move back to everton on a perm to be done, spurs asked him to wait until the new manager was sorted and to speak to him, i expect he will again ask for the move to be made unless avb can convince him he wants him as defo first choice (which i don't think he would), but spurs are likely to ask him to hand in a written transfer request to stop him getting his 'loyalty' bonus and then it will be done

Bish, I wouldn't call it ignorance, I would call it that I fail to see why you got rid of Harry Redknapp for a manager completely unproven in English football. Obviously AVB has potential otherwise he wouldn't have ended up at Chelsea, but have you really improved on Redknapp?? I doubt it, Redknapp had you at the top of your potential and you then got delusions of grandeur believing his performances were not good enough.

Yak - "Delusions of grandeur's" the media line which is slightly obstructed by thier love affair with Harry. Actual reasons were we needed a manager to build a team for the long term without bankrupting the club. Harry did a great job as a manager but that's almost entirely with the players he inherited, his signings were largely short-term stop gaps and/oror expensive failures (fees and wages) which made little impact and already need replacing. Hence why we always seemed to be down to the "bare bones". I'm really thankful for what Harry did for us and wish him the best in the future but was the right time to change. As for Pienaar, think he'll probably end up staying. Firstly I think he'll do better in a 433 system with flexible 'wingers' which AVB favours, and also not sure Everton will be able to afford him. We sold Kranjcar (who only had a year left on his contract) for £5.5mil so presumably Pienaar would cost more (longer contract, better player), which makes it unlilely. Think he'll get his chance next year and take it
