Everton complete the signing of Rangers Naismith

Everton have announced the signing of Rangers striker Steven Naismith.

The 25-year-old Scottish forward came down to Merseyside over the weekend, so that Everton could evaluate his knees following recent injuries.

Everton were apparently keen to make sure that an operation to repair his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in November 2011 and a similar procedure on his left knee in 2008 has left no long-term damage that could affect him in years to come.

This of course was just procedure and it would seem that there are no concerns regarding his fitness, as he has signed a four-year-deal to move to Goodison Park and be re-united with former team-mate and strike partner Nikica Jelavić.

'We are delighted that Steven has agreed to join us. He will be an excellent addition to the players we already have and we look forward to him being fit and ready to play at the start of the season. Everton Manager David Moyes told evertonfc.com.

Naismith added: 'It is a great honour to be joining a club of Everton`s wonderful history and to have the chance to play with such a talented group of players in the world`s best league: the Barclays Premier League, in front of such a passionate group of fans.

'I look forward greatly to working with the Manager David Moyes and all the staff at Everton and working hard to deliver on the pitch to repay their, and the Chairman Mr Kenwright`s, faith and belief in me.`

The deal is officially a free transfer after the Scottish international declared himself a free agent, after he had refused the transfer of his contract to the Rangers newco.

Already said, think this is a very good signing, the Ranger lads seem to rate him very highly, can fit in nicely with Jelavic, offers creativity and a goalscoring threat, something that Cahill lacked last season. Looking forward to seeing him in the Blue shirt against United. Pienaar, Pranjic, and maybe a couple more, ad I would be absolutely thrilled for the United match.
