Baines plays down Man Utd link

There are of course very different ways to read into what a player says in regards to transfer rumours.

Many British media outlets go for the jugular and sensationalise a story to get people to read more.

In regards to fans websites, there are two very different ways to interpret the following comments from Leighton Baines.

The Everton left back has been the subject to a summer long transfer rumour linking him to Manchester United, so when asked about it he said:

"I`ve been aware of what`s been said in the press and what`s not. I don`t know much beyond that to tell you the truth. I can`t really say too much about it. he said in the Post.

From that quote Click Manchester led with the headline 'Everton full-back Baines aware of Manchester United interest'

While our friends over at Vital Manchester United took the comments to mean that he was 'pondering his future'.

We at Vital Everton simply took it that he has read the papers and knows the stories just like we do!

When you continue to read what else he said about the links you begin to get the impression that he isn't exactly phased by the rumour mill.

He continued: "I`ve got three years still to go on my contract. I don`t think it does anyone any harm to be linked with a club like Manchester United. But it doesn`t do any good, either.

"It is just one of those things. It tends to swing around at this time of the year. People put two and two together sometimes they get four and sometimes they get three or five. It gets other people more excited than those involved."

Especially considering just how much most papers suck up to United and Ferguson. There has been no contact between the two parties, not saying it couldn't happen, but as of right now, Baines is staying at Everton, and considering Baines is extremely happy at Everton and the fact we aren't as financially screwed as previous summers puts us in a very strong position.

One of the reports has even suggested a fee as high as £17million.

If I remember correctly, the rags had Baines pinned to United for 5mil towards the end of this season, then upped it to 12mil and then 17mil. Absolutely clueless, why people believe that garbage is beyond me.
