Will Everton make move for Naismith?

Everton had already been linked with Rangers striker Steven Naismith this summer.

It had been reported that David Moyes fancied uniting him with Nikica Jelavić at Goodison Park.

The 25-year-old striker has a record of 63 goals in 140 appearances for Rangers since he joined the Scottish Premier League side from Kilmarnock in 2007 and Everton's Jelavić has previously described Naismith as the best strike partner he has ever had.

Considering the impact Jelavić has had at Everton, it seems a great idea to partner him with someone he really works well with and Steven Naismith is a much more realistic option to Everton than Wolfsburg's Mario Mandžukić who comes with a £7million price tag.

It had been previously reported that following Rangers financial difficulties, the Scotland international had a release clause of £2million written into his contract after he took a 75% pay-cut in February.

But events over the weekend mean he could be available on a free transfer.

Naismith and Rangers team-mate Steven Whittaker have both attempted to declare themselves as free agents after claiming that they had refused the transfer of their contracts to the newco, which has applied for a place in the Scottish Premier League.

Rangers of course have denied this and have declared they will take legal action against the players and any team attempting to sign them.

Certainly one to keep an eye on.

Champion Willy here.. Does Moyes resemble a vulture flying over unfortunate wildebeeste stricken down but a source of cheap meat? Well I suppose if he hasn't any money, alls fair in kicking somebody when they are down. Are these fair analogies?

Football is a business, given our financial situation you cant be surprised that we are taking advantage of it, besides, we were taken advantage of last summer due to our finances. Fingers crossed we can get this lad, Jelavic rates him as the best partner he has ever played with and the Rangers fan seem to rate Naismith higher than Jelavic. Not to mention, can play as a striker, number 10 or on the wings, 3 positions where we are very thin at the moment.

Rob ... quite right, just chcking if there were any sensitivties, if I were you I would grab what I could, football isn't a gentleman's game but one based on results.

Naismith would be a great signing

From the look of things as i understand it, Rangers will not be in the SPL next season and will be in a lower division. This is due to the fact that NEWCO cannot get enough votes off SPL teams to stay in the premier. So the situation offers an ideal oppurtunity for young Naismith to reunite with old Jela and form an oustanding strike-partnership for us.
