Moyes backs groundshare

David Moyes has backed the idea behind a shared stadium for Everton and Liverpool.

Shared grounds are not uncommon across Europe, with big clubs in Italy sharing stadiums.

But it has never been something that has really happened in England.

In the non-leagues it is becoming more common as smaller sides struggle financially to afford their grounds, while some clubs in the football league of course share their grounds with Rugby clubs.

But when it comes to two top English sides sharing a ground it is yet to happen and the Everton gaffer doesn't believe it will ever happen on Merseyside as Liverpool are unlikely to back the idea.

'We know we could do with some more cash and we would like a new stadium but we have an awful lot of things going for us, I think Everton probably need a new stadium more than Liverpool but it is not something we have in our culture because we don't share grounds.' Moyes said on Talksport.

He continued: 'It does make sense, we could really redevelop the whole area around Stanley Park.

'For us it is definitely worth doing.

'We'd take it but I don't think Liverpool would probably want us or need us and from that point of view I think that is where it will end up.'

THat would be just horrible surely?
The Fear
Ask five different Evertonians and you'll get five different answers Fear. Right now our current ground is holding us back and if a groundshare offered a resolution to that problem then I would take it. Much better than leaving the City like previous plans.

I am completely torn. But in the end, I want what is best for Everton and as it stands, Everton need a stadium desperately, Goodison is sadly holding us back now and we need a new stadium, not only does a new stadium provide more revenue, but it would make us much, much, MUCH more attractive to potential buyers. Of course all other avenues, and I mean everything other possible solution we need to be explored, but if it is the only way for this club to move forward, then so be it. Fans might be *****ed off, but in the end it would be hugely beneficial to the club, and is that not what fans want?

Champion Willy here ....well how long before Goodison park rusts away....it's like going back to Victoriana when compared to new stadiums like he Etihad, a veritable palace. Why don't you attract the Commonwealth games to Merseyside and get the national taxpayer to build an athletics stadium which then becomes the joint footie stadium. Then all you need to do is attract a good Sheikh and you are made.

You make it sound so easy willy, do you lot still do that cringeworthy poznan???
Bez the blue
Bez : We only do the Poznan now for the fourth goal at home... so most weeks and being the wrong way we are able to look out of our stadium onto the verdant pastures of East Manchester; full of chocolate box farms, watermills, cows, sheep and buxom dairymaids walking in the fields.

Bez when that annoying nob heads' anti-depressents wear off -he might develop some clarity and realise "Empty vessels make the most noise!" With regards to the pertanent subject, Groundsharing-is a non-starter!!! If you consider our history, in a sense we already shared a ground with our dear neighbours. It didn't work then and never would. As one of the founders of football (as we know it) i couldn't bear to think of us sharing a ground with our fiercest rivals because after all, being the oldest derby in football IMO requires a distance between us even if it is just across the famous park.

Mandan : Methinks you might have had another bad night on the doggies but to get back to the question in hand you might have to think about another well known saying : 'Beggars can't be choosers". The reality is you have a ground that in the modern age is not fit for purpose and you don't have the money on your own to fund a brand new stadium. I know reality hurts!!
Wswilly3
Willy, it's not reality that hurts on this matter it's more like the fear of the unknown or the unlikely. Instead of you coming from a smug position having an Arab sugar dad try to think what it would feel like if you had to share with UTD or Rangers and Celtic, Arsenal Spurs etc etc. To summarise my dear cyber friend we will get out of our financial mess without having to groundshare!!!!
evertonmandan
Mandan . I understand the points you are saying and joking apart weat City are not smug just feeling very lucky after having been the kicking boys for 40 years. Does anyone want to ground share .... Definitely not ...but he reality is that you do need a genuine sugar daddy... Not a Portsmouthor a Birmingham or even a Scum sugar daddy and whatyouhave to say is why should one choose the Toffees. One of the main reasons the good SheikhchosCit wax the fact we had a new stadium which meant seventy to a hundred million before the investment. You guys have a great history, a grea fan base but from an investment basis not much else.... Not being smug but realistic.
Wswilly3
Fair point and well made willy.
evertonmandan
I am shocked , no abuse from anywhere. What have I done?
Wswilly3
Willy you massive tit. There you go mate, hope that makes you feel better. But in all honesty everything you have said is the truth, we need a new stadium to progress, hardly groundbreaking stuff.
Rob-EFC
Thanks Rob made me feel better. I liked your pun, good I son.
Wswilly3
I have been saying for well over 20 years that ground sharing if the logical way forward for the likes of Liverpool/Everton, Spurs/Arsenal etc, but it must be built as a joint venture, not one being the tennant of the other. if the building is developped to be 50/50 in terms of facilities between clubs, should fans look at ecconomics over club rivalries for the good of their club?
