In the aftermath of Harry Redknapp leaving Tottenham, you would have been hard pressed to find anyone who didn't think David Moyes was leaving Everton to take the Spurs hot-seat.
He was the bookies favourite, to the point where betting was suspended.
No other candidates appeared to be linked with the role in the media and to many it seemed a foregone conclusion.
But over the weekend, things have now calmed down.
Tottenham are now drawing up their shortlist and as yet they haven't made an approach to either Everton or David Moyes.
'All I can say is that I have had no contact and if I had had any I would have told my chairman.' Moyes told BBC Radio 5 Live.
Speaking to the BBC he continued: 'I'm ambitious and I want to try to win things and ideally I want to do that with Everton.
'I've always been loyal and I will continue to be loyal to Everton - as long as they want me, I'm happy there.'
Moyes recently returned from holiday in America, some people in the media thought that this was due to him wanting to hold possible talks with Kenwright over the Spurs job.
Some thought it was merely to discuss transfer budgets for the new season at Everton and some thought it could be to discuss a new contract as he only has one year remaining.
The Express was one of those very papers and they believe that David Moyes is now poised to sign a new lucrative three-year contract to stay at Goodison Park, which of course would end all the Spurs speculation.
The only obvious stumbling block for that to happen would be player sales, so I would suggest that what happens with Moyes will be a good indication of what Evertonians can expect over the next couple of years.
If he goes, expect player sales to cash in on our big name players, if he stays, then hopefully we can see the top names stay with one or two additions.
