'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Most predictable transfer rumour to-date is...

Anyone watching Euro 2012 and in particular Croatia will have realised the great partnership up front between Everton's Nikica Jelavić and Wolfsburg's Mario Mandžukić.

Both have shown good goalscoring form in the tournament so far and their partnership has flurried.

Anyone who has seen them play will have thought about just how good they could be if they partnered each other up front on a weekly basis, so it's hardly surprising the British media have put this together and suggested that Mandžukić could be an Everton target.

The Mirror have done their best to make it sound convincing, we apparently were interested in him two years ago when he played for Dinamo Zagreb, but the now 26-year-old was signed by Wolfsburg for €8 million by then manager Steve McClaren where he has flourished scoring 20 goals in less than 60 appearances.

Despite Steve McClaren moving on, the red top believes the connection between McClaren and Everton assistant Steve Round has some relevance to the story, with the two being friends.

Mandžukić has two years left on his contract with Wolfsburg and is reportedly available for £6million. If you were playing fantasy football, you'd simply love to pair these two up, but even at a 'fair' pricetag of £6million probably counts us out.

Sorry if that last post sounded a bit snotty but it was based on frustration that we just cant compete against these newly found" fur coat no history" boys in the market! Therein lies the reason why we just cant afford (literally!) to lose DM at the moment for his undeniable skill of operating on a shoestring budget. I read a disturbing report yesterday though, apparently the pre-season training program for Everton is grueling (Sean Connery-The Hill) and could be linked to our famous slow starts---To counter that theory we never had Jelavic and couldn't score in a brothel.COYB

Still maintain the preseason has little effect on our starts, teams have had crap preseasons, but start the season well. For me, it is about the transfer market, last few years, our summers have stunk, lost a lot of players, especially towards the deadline day. New players breed hope in supporters for the season, and shows the players ambition as well as giving those players competition for their spots. Sign Pienaar, and possibly Naismith, loanees or freebies, without losing anyone in the caliber of Fellaini and Baines, think we could finally break that hoodoo.
