Moyes delight with Jags England call-up

England boss Roy Hodgson's final 23-man squad must be finalised by 11am today.

As we reported yesterday, Everton will now be represented by both Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka after the centre back was drafted into the squad following the injury to Manchester City's Gareth Barry.

It was revealed yesterday that Gareth Barry would miss Euro 2012 after being ruled out following a scan which revealed a tear to his lower abdomen.

The injury came during the friendly win over Norway.

While Barry is of course a midfielder and Jags is a centre back the move does make sense as Hodgson can take advantage of the versatility at his disposal with Phil Jones in the squad.

The news will please all Evertonians, including the gaffer.

'I am really pleased for Jags, I said earlier that I was disappointed he was only on the stand-by list, because I thought he'd bring something different to the rest of the defenders.' Everton manager David Moyes told the Guardian.

He continued: 'I think the way he performed last season - certainly in the second half of it - merited a call-up to the original squad, so I'm delighted he's in there at last. In my opinion, when I look at some of England's best performances, they've all come when Jags has been involved in them. He most certainly deserves to be in and around international company and it's great for him that he can now look forward to the Euros.'

What Jagielka showed was a first class attitude and 100% effort, good luck to the lad.
