Distin signs new one year Everton deal

Sylvain Distin has agreed a new one year contract.

The 34-year-old defender has shown great form during the past season, proving age is just a number.

His form was so good he was recently voted Players' Players of the Season by his team-mates.

There were a few rumours here and there that Everton and Distin couldn't settle on a new contract, but those rumours were put to bed once this news was announced on Friday.

'I love my job and I know how lucky I am to do this kind of job. I want to carry on as long as I can.' Distin said following the announcement.

He continued: 'It's a good squad here with a great atmosphere. I feel so comfortable with the lads so it's a pleasure.

'Guys like Leighton Baines, Marouane Fellaini, John Heitinga, Phil Jagielka, Tim Howard - there's a lot of quality in this squad.'

This was more or less a no brainer, actually kind of surprised it took as long as it did. But Distin was brilliant last season, and shows no sign of slowing down despite his age. Hopefully next season can form a good partnership with Heitinga as I feel that is the best partnership the club has at CB.

Hi Champion Willy here ...gosh is that old stager still going. One of our average players when we were a mediocre side... I know it take some believing but we havent always been Championi. Anyway at least you have only given him a one year contract then it will be the big E for Sylvain as you have youngesters like Hibbert to step into his shoes. Only joking Toffeemen, keep smiling during the close season and I will be for ever grateful for the four all.

Great news, a supreme athlete who can keep going for a few more seasons to come, we have strength and depth in our centre back positions
