No approach for Baines from United

Speculation might be mounting regarding a Manchester United bid for Leighton Baines, but Everton, as yet, have not received any contact from United.

While some media outlets are reporting Baines to United as pretty much a done deal, with talkSPORT even reporting that Everton are lining up Lyon full-back Aly Cissokho as his replacement, the Echo have made an attempt to cool speculation.

They have reported that Manchester United chief executive David Gill and Everton chairman Bill Kenwright have not held discussions over a possible deal and suggest that Baines isn't seeking a move away from Goodison Park, while their sources even say that Baines isn't even a 'bona fide target'.

Hi Champion Willy here .... What you have to remember is that the thing you and the Scum have in common is that you both have little money for transfers. They try and cover up their Glazer induced poverty whilst you are honest about yours.

I hope this rumour is just part of the silly season. He's a class act so he's bound to be wanted by other teams. For the life of me though i can't see him going to Manchester, he might get homesick.

No chance, United are not going to meet our valuation (which we would want at least 20mil), not to mention, I imagine United will target central midfielders before a left back. Not to mention, Everton are not in as much ***** as we were last summer, so we are under no pressure to sell a Baines or Fellaini. And finally, and most importantly, Baines is extremely happy at Everton, he is a good lad with the right set of morals and values. No chance, remember this rumour was started by the Mirror FFS

Good point, the Mirror Utd no less!

Champion Willy here ... Now we have talked about Everton players maybe leaving to the more monied clubs but indulge me. If you had the choice of transferring five players into Everton from other Premiership teams without money being an issue, who would those five players be? I think it's fascinating to get a perspective from other fans on this so would be interested in your choices.

Off topic here, I heard a dirty rumour that Everton fans criticize David Moyes for not playing 4-4-2? Is this true? -Spur fan

Can only speak for myself TC, before the end of Jan, i thought Moyesy was tactically challenged(no offence!) no matter what line up he put out! So when we served up with Pienarr and Jelavic(after he got over his injury) The difference was HUGE throughout the whole squad! To answer Willy's question-If dosh wasn't an issue i would like Aguero to partner Jelly in a 4-4-2 formation(that would be a rich mans Aguero!)
evertonmandan
Personally, I don't criticise him for not playing 4-4-2, and the majority of Everton fans don't criticise him for that. Simply because the 4-5-1, or the more recent 4-2-3-1 is the best option for our squad, mainly because we only have one above average striker in Jelavic (who is awesome). The biggest criticisms I hear of Moyes, and I do tend to agree with it, is that he is hell bent on playing his favourites no matter what. His favourites include the likes of Neville, Jagielka, Cahill and a couple others, even when they are seriously off form, for example, Heitinga and Distin is our best partnership at the club, hence Heitinga winning player of the season, and Distin players player of the season, and yet Moyes seems hell bent on including Jagielka in the centre of defence, and our defence looks shaky because of it. Although, saying that, I am not calling for his head, and I cant imagine any Everton fan wanting him gone, tactically, he can be suspect at times, but I would am willing to forgive that considering just how good he is in the transfer market, he is probably the best in the league when it comes to the transfer market, and January, with Jelavic and Gibson, is living proof of that.

If I could take any 5 players from the PL it would have to be Yaya Toure (personally, I think he is your best player without a doubt), Aguero, Silva, Rooney (yes I know) and probably Juan Mata. And would play 4-2-2-2, with Rooney and Aguero up front, Mata and Silva as the attacking mids and Fellaini and Toure as the DM's who can bomb forward at times.
Rob-EFC
Well put Rob, there's an old saying;" Cut One's Coat According To One's Cloth!" which basically means doing the best you can with the resources you have at your disposal. DM has certainly done that and to be fair to him if we can carry on where we left off i am sure we can become a force to be reckoned with.(Gibson an unsung hero!)
evertonmandan
Gibson is fast becoming one of my fave players, when he plays, you tend to not even notice him, but when he isn't playing, like against Stoke and Wolves (disappointing draws), you begin to notice that he is missing. I still cant put my finger on it, but he brings a sense of stability to that midfield, someone who can just put his foot on the ball, and you know he will make the right pass, something that we have lacked since when Arteta was on form (probably pre-Newcastle knee injury), and his partnership with Fellaini has been immense. Again, as I said, we were pretty poor against Stoke and Wolves, but then Gibson comes back for the Newcastle game, and we are absolutely superb. To find someone that can have that effect on a side for 500K is truly a testament to Moyes' ability in the market, despite his excellent record in the market, I firmly believe, given time, Gibson could turn out to be his best. Keep in mind, he joined in January and is only 24 still.
Rob-EFC
Thanks for the responses regarding Moyes tactics, its funny how different fans look at their managers, the media assume that Moyes and Redknapp are universally loved, but we have criticized Harry FOR playing 4-4-2 this season! Strange.
