Everton star off to Manchester United?

Leighton Baines has once again been linked with a move away from Everton to Manchester United.

The British tabloids think that Sir Alex Ferguson sees the Everton left-back as the ideal replacement for 31 year-old Patrice Evra.

Previously a fee of around £6million was mentioned, but that now appears to have risen to around £10million.

Vital Manchester United believe the reports will bring an 'inevitable howls of derision' from Evertonians, but is it that much of a surprise?

Last season Baines was the best left-back in the division, despite not being on top of his form this year, he's been given that award.

He's also been linked with Manchester United before, when we signed him from Wigan, United had already been sniffing around.

So I don't think the rumour will be met with 'howls of derision' as predicted by our friends on Vital, but I would imagine the fee, is probably still way below an estimated price that we would consider.

Going to have to be at least 20mil I would think, but I don't see us selling Baines, and I don't really see Baines pushing a move, seems very happy at Everton at the moment. If we needed money, you would think Rodwell and Jagielka would be the prime targets

A ten mil offer for a player of Baines's skill is derisory. To be fair though this is the silly season and the papers have got to have something to write about. Like Rob i reckon LB is happy where he is especially as Everton are making vast improvements on a technical level!

Now that would be a sign his career is really in decline.

Willy wondered where you'd got to? those Saga holidays are getting longer mate. Anyway welcome back to real culture buddy!

You were right I was away for a week preparing for the match today. What a result eh you Toffeemen but thanks to you for the 4-4.....I always thought you would come back against the Scum after my pep talk.

Although the right team won in the end Willy, what a mess you nearly made of it!! Couldn't help thinking that nob head agent of yours------ Dick Barton done you a right favour! Still roll on next season and we'll give you another tankin' mate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!COYBs

Yep, a difficult match to watch but it all came good in the end but without you Toffees holding the Scum a couple of weeks before it would have been all in vain. Trouble is boys that to do well in the Premiership costs money and the days of home grown talent winning the league has gone for good. You guys couldn't hope to keep Rooney and in order to survive will always need to sell a Lescott or this next year probably Fellani or Baines. I am nor saying it as a gloat but as an unfortunate reality because we were there until the good Sheikh came along .... hope you are using his petrol by the way. The other reality is that given your budget Everton have alays punched above their weight, mainly due to having a shrewdy in Gollum and when he goes you may well suffer. I hope not as I have a soft spot for the Toffees and always supported you over Liverpool in the Mersey derby. Anyway best of luck for next season but dont get your hopes too high as money definitely talks and always will.

I don't think we will see Baines and Fellaini leave (I am hoping). I think we have a bit to play with, but if we need more, I imagine the prime candidates to be sacrificed would be Rodwell and Jagielka, both are probably not in our best XI at the moment and both could fetch over 10mil I reckon. We need to keep Fellaini and Baines at all costs.
