'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Jagielka intends to give Hodgson a headache

With the Premier League season coming to an end, it's hardly a surprise that attentions have begun to move to this summers European Championships.

West Brom manager Roy Hodgson bows out of his position on Sunday to take over as England manager and Everton's Phil Jagielka intends to make his decision of the centre back roles a difficult one.

'You've got to keep going to the end of the season, not take your foot off the gas, and give Roy Hodgson the headache of who's going to go in his squad.' Jags told the media.

He continued: Hopefully I've played well enough in the last few weeks to at least be in with a shout.'

A knee injury in January cased doubts on Jags claims for a place in the England squad, especially when he struggled to earn his right back into the Everton squad.

So it's hardly a surprise that the 29-year-old, was also not shy in buttering up his potential boss over the summer, singing the praises of the former Liverpool manager and backing him to be the right choice for the Football Association.

He added: 'I think the appointment is really good. We needed it doing as soon as possible, Look at his CV, look at the successes he's had. Okay he didn't have the best of times at Liverpool but one bad experience doesn't make him a bad coach or a bad manager.

'There weren't too many people out there who could have taken the job but the FA have gone with Roy and time will tell.

'We've not done amazingly well in the championships in the past 40 years or whatever, so hopefully Roy will do as well as he can and the boys can do well for him.'

Do you think Jags has done enough to get on the place in the summer?

Apparently Hodgson has already got a headache over who to choose between Ferdinand and Terry (because of Terry facing a court case in July) so whether or not that increases Jagielkas claims for a seat on the plane is debatable. To be honest Phil's buttering up Hodgson made me cringe! but at least he's keen!!!

Jags is good, but not in the form to be claiming a first team place for England, invaluable as a back up and squad player for the euros though, i don't think he will let anyone down.
