'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Stracqualursi is now ready

Back in September we reported that Argentinian striker Denis Stracqualursi had come to Goodison Park in a cloud of mystery.

We admitted that it was slightly melodramatic, but the point was not many people knew a great deal about the 23-year-old.

All we knew was that he had scored 22 goals in 35 games for Tigre in the Argentine championship last season and didn't exactly know what to expect.

Despite little knowledge, he immediately got the backing of 56% of Vital Everton users, who voted in a poll that he would be an instant hit at Goodison Park, while 22% preferred to reserve judgement and 22% believed he would fail.

Assistant manager Steve Round was quick to try and lower expectation levels, telling the Echo back in September that: 'It will take a while for him to settle in and get up to full speed.'

Well that time appears to be now.

He scored his first goal for the club against Fulham in the FA Cup, which he then followed up with his first Premier League goal against Chelsea and continued his scoring form with another goal against Blackpool in the Cup.

'When I first got here, it was difficult to adapt to the different style of football,' he told evertonfc.com.

He added: 'But now I'm getting games and getting time, I'm scoring goals and that's the main thing for a forward.

'I'm very happy with the goal. It's very important for forwards to score goals for confidence.

There are a lot of reasons for ouur turnaround in the past few weeks, Donovan and Pienaar return, Jelavic signing, but the Stracq man is probably the MAIN reason behind this turnaround, he has been fantastic in the last 6 or so games he has started, unlike Saha (which is the other MAIN thing for our turnaround) he works his backside off for the team, just runs and runs and runs, hassles defenders and just gives 100%, and that attitude has really flowed through the team and the supporters. I never expected him to be a prolific scorer, but 3 goals in 6 games, who knows, we might of had our answer for a striker all season long, one thing is for sure MOYESIE SIGN HIM UP FFS!!!!

Straq has been tremendous, he runs round like a mad dog and he is a cult hero in the making
